Automating Office Process's with Microsoft SharePoint & InfoPath

Working with business stakeholders to design, build and deliver a number of eForms, workflows and SharePoint lists [more..]

Building an enterprise data warehouse in Microsoft SQL 2008

Working through the design, build & implementation of various stages of this ongoing development, my role included:
  • Gathering requirements, designing and implementing solutions for users.
  • Assembling packages, views, functions & stored procedures to import, push & synchronise data between a variety of systems including XML services, Oracle, Excel 2007, flat files, SharePoint 2007 & Access 2007.
  • Developing additional components in C# to satisfy custom requirements.
  • Delivering cubes in SSAS & reports through SSRS to user requirements.

Site administration & development in SharePoint

The business hosts a number of SharePoint installations, all are constantly undergoing change & transformation; from synchronising data with the warehouse, to the presentation of news & video highlights, to the submission & approval of work flows. My role included;
  • Developing dashboards to present SQL views using JScript, HTML & the Google API.
  • Delivering multimedia submitted to SharePoint by means of a custom built media page.
  • InfoPath 2007, Microsoft Office 2007 & SharePoint development for a range of business process’s.

Build, enhance, automate & maintain operational databases

I’ve been involved on various projects at differing stages of their life cycle where the solution is to build an SQL database for the storage & reporting of a Business Units data such as bookings, financials or excursions. These are delivered with an SQL Server 2008 database served to a client application in a fully customised & locked down, & in most cases unrecognisable to the user, instance of Access 2007. My role would involved:
  • Gather & process requirements & design the architecture of the solution.
  • Build the databases & views in SQL Server 2008.
  • Build the Access 2007 client, secure access, build the custom ribbon in XML, forms, reports and customisations in Visual Basic.

Delivering a full suite of automated Microsoft Office 2007 routines & templates

The Automation Teams goal was to increase performance by the integration of IT systems to assist in the delivery of core legal documents, I assisted in achieving this goal by delivering a suite of highly automated templates such as letters, memos, contracts etc. My role included;
  • Building .NET client plug-ins, using C# in Visual Studio Tools for Microsoft Office (VSTO), which integrated seamlessly with Microsoft Word 2007.
  • Integrating templates with data from various sources including; Aderant CMS, Worksite & our Corporate SOA; utilising C# and APIs, direct data feeds through ODBC, or XML Services.
  • Developing specific case type work flows & document automation package

Business Process Workflow and Report Automation

I was involved in a number of projects to automate the document production process for fixed price work, for instance the production of mortgage, conveyancing & superannuation documents, integrating with various data sources to draw variable data & clauses. The technology used would depend on the users requirement and I was involved with;
  • Developing Matter Information Systems in SQL 2005, Access 2003 & SharePoint 2007 Team Sites with integrated custom lists.
  • Drawing data from a variety of sources in to either HotDocs (a legal document automation package) or custom built templates I’d prepared in VSTO using C#

Developing the DNA Automation lines

From 1998 to 2002 I worked on all aspects of developing, testing, validating & implementing 2 major projects to automate DNA profiling & analysis of reference & crime scene samples using robotic systems.

I developed several client applications to assist in the automation of the process including a client that could control the systems remotely and even monitor the system via webcam.  In 2000 this was state of the art.

Other client applications I wrote included barcode checking and recording applications, issue recording software and calibration software to record and report on dispensing accuracy.

Modelling business units using computer simulation software

In 2004 I lead a project that set out to computer simulate many of the organisations laboratory procedures to assist in scheduling & to help identify bottle necks in process’s. This project lead to the initiation of many subsequently successful projects. This process was highly technical & involved large volumes of data & statistical analysis.

The integration of an Automated Statement Writing Package

In 2005, though 2006, I delivered ongoing improvements to a package built in part in Access 2003 and part in Word 2003 & integrated with SAP & Oracle, My role was to apply improvements using VBA & SQL to build routines which would automatically built expert witness statements for the courts.

The delivery of a number of Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)

Core to all laboratory procedures is data flow & data integrity, from 2000 through to 2006 I delivered countless LIMS to assist specialist teams to manage their data. Included amongst these were;
  • A VB6 GUI for a Access 2000 database that imported instruments outputs from the quick turn around DNA laboratory (2003)
  • Several modules for a Mobile Integration Database, built in Visual Basic that was designed to integrate data on a mobile phone & store the information in an MS SQL back end (2004)
  • A LIMS for the Serious Crimes DNA line, with Oracle tables in the back-end & an Access 2003 front-end (2006)
