Transform the insurance delivery programme to become Agile

The programme was well established and had a good reputation for delivering good value changes and new products, on time and on budget. However, the programme was also accustomed to having priority access to delivery teams and this was unsustainable. In general, there was a desire to become "more Agile", and in particular, more transparent, quicker lifecycle, more responsive to change, and more aligned with the rest of the business priorities.

The roadmap for this project is still active and the solution so far has been to improve transparency through simple tools like backlogs and boards; moving away from Excel. The next steps were to promote team self-management by establishing joint planning and access and empowerment to use the backlogs and boards, and then to transform the system and mindsets
away from project-centric working, and to team-centric outcomes. Around 50 people are now working in increments to deliver the team's priorities, planning quarterly using SAFe methods and being predictable through utilising available capacity rather than demand.
